Hey everyone!
This post is for the ladies. The ladies that are not sure about stepping in front of a camera for boudoir or the ones who are all for it.
I have had plenty of outdoor boudoir, but before this year, I only had taken boudoir indoor only once. I felt I needed to go out and do more. So, I attended a boudoir shoot + meet/workshop last week and got some more indoor boudoir photos under my belt. It has made me that much more excited for my boudoir marathon happening on June 13th & June 14th here in Orange, CA! It also has made me think about posting a blog post about any kind of advice for the ladies that will be attending the marathon or interested in a shoot with me (or another photographer) in the near future. So here it is!
I will start with one major advice: Are you a woman? Then this type of shoot it for YOU. Go out and DO IT! 🙂 It does not matter what you look like or feel like, this type of shoot is perfect for you. I am a strong believer in having each one of you ladies taking up one of these shoots to simply have the experience. Don’t bother waiting for, “Oh, I will wait until I lose a few more pounds,” or “I have no one to give it to.” YOU are BEAUTIFUL right NOW and you do not need a significant other to do this type of shoot. Every single one of you ladies were created beautifully and this type of shoot will give you the boost of confidence you will need. Most women start to plan this type of shoot for their significant other, but end up leaving feeling better about themselves and love the product + themselves so much more! Whether you have someone to give it to or do not, you will not regret your time, money, or experience with a boudoir shoot.
Many women feel that a boudoir shoot is JUST lingerie. Let me tell you now, it is NOT. It is WHATEVER YOU feel comfortable, sexy, and beautiful in. It can be a sweater with your favorite panties. It can be a corset with matching heels. It can be a button up shirt with a few buttons unbuttoned with knee high sock. It can be matching bra + panties with heels and fishnets. It can be whatever YOU wish/want it to be. It is all about YOU being comfortable, but ready to feel your best! While some ladies love bright colors (I am one of those ladies), for photos they are not the best. The camera likes to make the neon/bright colors SUPER vibrant and at times, can ruin the photo(s). While picking outfits, keep in mind of light colors, blacks, tans, whites, and any other neutral colors. So pick those! 🙂 SIDE NOTE: I LOVE when clients send me photos of their outfit ideas and ask what ones would look best. If you are planning on being one of my clients, don’t be shy and send those photos right on over! I would love to help! 🙂
Oh! Also, make sure to bring accessories! These not only look great for the photos, but they are fun to play with when posing! Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, fake glasses, etc. all make the outfit(s) look even better! heheh!
Now onto the advice of, “How do I prepare!?” After choosing outfits and discussing location with photographer, it is time to get yourself all dolled up!! Now, for the ladies interested or already booked for the boudoir marathon next month, you will have your makeup + hair done right before we start shooting. If you’re another client that wishes to have another date for your shoot, I have makeup artists and hair stylists you can go to, but you are always welcome to do it yourself or go to someone else you know. If you are doing it yourself, make sure to go a little heavier on the makeup because it will show even more in the photos (Which is a good thing!). If you go to a makeup artist that isn’t given to you by me, make sure to let your makeup artist know you will be having a photoshoot and they will know how to bring out your best features with their expertise! 🙂
The day before and/or the morning of, make sure nails are done (or not – just please do not have chipped nails.), have your body well groomed/shaved, drink plenty of water, and keep reminding yourself of how much FUN you will be having during your shoot!!
I am SO excited for my boudoir marathon happening next month and I hope all this information helps you when it comes to your shoot! If you are interest in the boudoir marathon, you can send me an email at: [email protected] with the subject line “Boudoir Marathon” to find out more. If you ran across this blog after the boudoir marathon, I would still love to photograph you and make you feel amazing! Go ahead and still send an email to me with “Boudoir” as the subject line.
Can’t wait to help make you feel amazing!
xoxo,
Shelby Danielle
