Maternity Session Do’s and Don’ts

Do #1: Embrace Your Glow and Unique Style

Your pregnancy glow is real, and it’s a wonderful thing! Embrace it with all the confidence you can muster. Whether you’re all about that natural look or love getting dolled up, wear what makes you feel like the radiant queen you are. Flowy dresses, form-fitting gowns, or even your partner’s shirt – there are no rules when it comes to showcasing your style and personality. Your maternity session is about capturing the authentic YOU, so don’t be afraid to let your inner beauty shine.

Don’t #1: Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute

Time flies, especially during pregnancy! As much as I’d love to accommodate every expecting mother, it’s essential to plan your maternity session well in advance. Around 28 to 32 weeks is an ideal time, as your belly is beautifully round but not too uncomfortable. This timeframe also allows us to reschedule in case of unforeseen circumstances like weather or unexpected health issues. So, get in touch early, and we’ll make sure to capture that precious baby bump in all its glory!

Do #2: Pick the Perfect Location

Southern California offers a stunning array of backdrops for your maternity session – from breathtaking beaches to picturesque parks and charming urban settings. Consider the atmosphere that resonates most with you and your partner. Are you nature lovers, city enthusiasts, or beach bums? Choosing a location that speaks to your heart will add a personal touch to your photos, making them even more meaningful.

Don’t #2: Don’t Overlook the Importance of Comfort

While we aim to capture beautiful images, your comfort is of utmost importance. Maternity sessions can sometimes involve a bit of walking or posing, so wear comfortable shoes and clothing that won’t cause discomfort. If you have any specific concerns or physical limitations, don’t hesitate to share them with me before the shoot, and I’ll tailor the session accordingly. The more relaxed and at ease you are, the more natural and captivating the photographs will be.

Do #3: Involve Your Partner and Other Children

A maternity session isn’t just about the mama-to-be; it’s a celebration of your growing family. Include your partner and any other children you have in the session. The love and connection between family members are incredibly heartwarming to capture on camera. Candid moments of laughter, hugs, and excitement will be cherished for years to come.

Don’t #3: Don’t Shy Away from Expressing Your Emotions

Pregnancy is an emotional journey, and your maternity session is the perfect time to embrace all those feelings. Whether you feel overwhelmed with joy, a touch of nervousness, or even a hint of vulnerability, let those emotions come to the surface. The camera can capture genuine emotions beautifully, and these images will remind you of this extraordinary time in your life.

Do #4: Incorporate Personal Items

Do you have a cherished baby blanket or a pair of tiny shoes waiting for your little one? Bring them along! Incorporating personal items in your maternity session adds a sentimental touch and makes the experience even more special. Your session should reflect your unique journey into motherhood, and including meaningful props can help tell that story.

Don’t #4: Don’t Forget to Hydrate and Snack

Maternity sessions can take some time, especially if we’re exploring different locations. It’s essential to stay hydrated and have a light snack on hand to keep your energy levels up. Dehydration and hunger can dampen the fun, so keep a water bottle and some healthy snacks in your bag. We want you to feel refreshed and ready to shine throughout the entire session!

Do #5: Trust Your Photographer

As your dedicated maternity photographer, my goal is to make you feel comfortable and at ease during the entire process. Trust in my expertise, and feel free to share any ideas or inspirations you may have. I’m here to listen, guide, and capture the beauty of your pregnancy in the most authentic way possible. You can count on me to create stunning images that you’ll cherish for a lifetime.

Don’t #5: Don’t Be Too Concerned About Posing Perfectly

One of the most common worries I hear from expecting mothers is the fear of not knowing how to pose during their maternity session. Well, let me put your mind at ease: you don’t need to be a professional model to shine in your photos! Maternity sessions are all about capturing the genuine moments and emotions that make this time in your life so special.
