Getting Ready Photos & How to Make Everyone Feel Included

For all my brides-to-be, it can feel like everyone close to you has their hand in the getting ready process before the wedding. Your mother has her tasks, and so do your bridesmaids. However, with so many important people in your life, it can be hard to include everyone in every aspect of the getting ready process. It is super common for someone to feel left out, and a lot of times, it ends up being the mother of the groom. Fortunately, I have a tip for you that will help make your soon to be mother-in-law feel more included and loved!

The day of your wedding, your mother is helping you fix your hair, pin the dress just right, and she is also trying (and sometimes failing) to hold back her tears. As a wedding photographer, I always take at least three hundred or so photos of these precious moments just before you walk down the aisle. Conversely, on the opposite side of the property, tucked away somewhere private, your groom is getting ready as well! Chances are his tie is a little crooked, and he can’t pin his boutonniere just right. A really sweet and loving way to involve your soon to be mother-in-law  in the “getting ready” pictures, is to grab a few with his mother, straightening that tie, and pinning his boutonniere.

It’s such a sweet gesture, and now your mother-in-law feels more involved and welcomed into your life as a couple! And best of all, she now has these photos as special keepsakes! Helping her baby boy get ready and look his best for the most important day of her life will mean the world to her!

I hope this tip serves all my brides-to-be and future grooms well! It’s so important to make sure that all of the future in-laws are happy on the wedding day, because any ounce of additional stress or tension could weigh the day down like a weighted blanket. It’s so easy to make sure everyone is comfortable and happy especially if you start planning small details like this ahead.
